ery early on Chris Fabry Live!
we had a listener suggest we highlight callers who are struggling. We want others to pray for their situations. Now, I didn't want to be a clearinghouse for every malady, and certainly I don't want to do my own "organ recital" (thanks to Warren Wiersbe for that one), but I do think many people want to pray for others who have lost a job or are going through some hard times. They also want to rejoice with other listeners who see positive things happening. Hence, we have come up with Make a Difference. Ron Hutchcraft used to call this, "Go MAD." Go make a difference. So if you are a prayer warrior, if you believe in the power of prayer (and I do because it connects our pain and problems with the Creator of the universe), please join us. And let's celebrate some of the difference-makers in our lives today. Give that person a call or an e-mail--just reach out in some way to say thank you, and who knows?  You just may find that you're making a difference to them.

Aid for Haiti
Pray for the limited staff at Missionary Flights International. They need endurance. Only a handful of people can work with the red tape and plane upkeep. They have materials and food to send, but it’s painfully slow right now. And pray for the financial resources to make a difference.

Update from Susi
Our friend, Susi, called in on Thursday and Friday. Here is a request she has about Haiti.

"The wall around the orphanage in Despinos has big gaps in it. The few men on staff there are standing in the gaps to protect the place from being looted.

My husband and several others are flying into the Domincan Republic Tuesday and driving across to repair the wall and try to bring food to our kids. Two other gentlemen from Tennessee and Pennsylvania are meeting up with them.

My husband and crew will be camping and roughing it for a week, then the second crew will tag them out. Could you please ask people to pray for these guys' safety. Watching footage of choppers getting mobbed is going to make a long week for us at home.

There is no one coming for those kids but us...."

More Stories from Haiti
Here's a link to a news video about several Central Florida students stranded in Haiti on a church mission. Also, this video report (in French) includes footage of Compassion International's Dan Wooley being pulled from the wreckage of the Hotel Montana, which was destroyed in the earthquake.

UPDATE 1/15: The New Missions team of 44 was safely evacuated from Haiti on Friday, arriving at a secure location in the Dominican Republic. Arrangements are being made to fly the team back to Orlando, with an anticipated arrival as early as tonight. Please continue to pray for the safe return of these students to their waiting families.

Weight Struggles
Please pray for a listener (and many others) who is struggling with her weight. She has a medical condition that makes it hard to exercise and she is embarrassed about her weight. Pray for help for her condition—that she will be able to get help from her doctor and church to assist her.

AG
Please pray for AG. She’s struggling, young, and over the weekend was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Pray that God will give her the strength she needs to overcome this, as well as many things in her past. Pray that God would bring a Christian friend into her life to help her walk through this valley as well.

Belle and Her Family
I just heard about a mother and her daughter who are living at the Target House at St. Jude Hospital. The girl is two and she has brain cancer. They have now been there two months and the doctors say they will need to stay at least four more months for more chemo. Meanwhile Dad is a youth minister and is caring for the other three children. Please pray for Belle Mitchell and her family.

Earthquake in Haiti
I’ve been getting some heart-wrenching emails from people with family in the earthquake zone. One listener has been supporting a little girl from Haiti for years and is desperate for news. Please continue to pray for those on the front lines, for safety, energy to tackle the overwhelming needs, logistical breakthroughs for relief, and an opportunity to share the gospel.

Kati Carlson
One of my dear friends at Moody, Joe Carlson, gave us news yesterday. I worked with Joe for years on Open Line and other projects. He’s an amazing guy. His wife, Kati, has been diagnosed with breast cancer. They’re going through the surgery options now. Please pray for peace through the midst of this storm and for clarity.

UPDATE 1/7: Kati's surgery will be Thursday, January 14. Please pray for peace and wisdom for Joe and Kati and skill for the doctors.

Urbana 2010
Please pray for those who have made decisions about the future while attending the Urbana conference. Some have become Christians. Some have rededicated themselves to God. Some have committed to some type of missionary service. Pray that the decisions made this week will be fruitful for eternity.

Friday, 12/18
After the show today I talked with a young man that Tricia put through. He sounded like he was 12 or 13. From Ohio. He said he wanted peace in his house. In the past there have not been many “silent nights.” His parents fight a lot. He sounded tired of the conflict, though he said things were getting a little better. Pray for Jesus to break through the pain he’s experiencing.

Also, Josh got on and mentioned his father and the abandonment he felt. His dad lives 5 minutes away from him and Josh has never met him. I’m praying that God would break through this man’s heart and heal some of the hurts that would cause him to toss out his son and daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Something big and awful must have happened to him in the past. Pray that Josh will be able to make a connection with him at some point in the future.

My Pop Challenge
A lot of listeners are responding to my triple dog dare to stop drinking soda pop! Please pray for those who have been struggling with this issue and are committed to making a change. Pray that God would help them gain victory over this unhealthy habit and empower them to make better choices in other areas of their lives, as well.

If you'd like to become a pop-stopper yourself and receive some periodic encouragement from me, you can sign up for my Stop the Pop/Forsake the Fizz email newsletter. We'd love to have you on board!

Joyce
Please pray for Joyce who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Pray for wisdom as far as treatment and that she would be a good example to her family and friends as she walks through this valley.

Mike from Iowa
I talked with Mike from Iowa on the phone several months ago. He and his family have been through a similar bout with mold. Except he is nearly bedridden now and has other symptoms we’ve not experienced. He told me he and his wife and some friends are going to fast and pray. I told him I would urge listeners to lift him up and see what God will do. He really wants to serve God with all his strength, and he’d love to have more strength.

Tricia and Nate
On the program today I mentioned that our producer, Tricia, and her husband, Nate, had some items stolen from their apartment yesterday. Even presents taken from their home they had intended for family. Here’s what Nate wrote back to us:
"It makes us realize the desperation that overcomes people when it comes to money (especially around Christmas time). Whether it was need or greed that drove them, these thieves were desperate enough to risk breaking into someone else’s home and taking things that didn’t belong to them. We’re not trying to justify their actions, but our society has turned money into such a god that people are willing to do anything to get it. We’re not really mad, and don’t even really care if the thieves get caught. What Chris said about looking forward to the place where moth and rust (and mold) does not destroy and where thieves don’t come in and steal washed over each of us in a new way. It just makes us long for eternity. We’ve been praying that the thieves’ parents will intervene. We’re assuming they’re young, and pray they will get guidance, and not have a life marked with crime that ends in a miserable cycle of prison and desperation."
